Care escapes extra RFU punishment

Harlequins and England scrum-half Danny Care will not face any further disciplinary action from the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for his dangerous tackle on Leeds' Rhys Oakley on December 4.

Care was suspended by Quins and so missed Sunday's 29-19 European Cup home loss to Sale.

An RFU panel on Tuesday gave Care a one-week ban but backdated it to December 10 - the same date as his Quins ban came into force.

That means he is eligible to play on December 17 and, as Harlequins' next match is not until December 20, Care will not miss any additional fixtures.

Meanwhile Ospreys wing Tommy Bowe has been cited for a dangerous tackle on Kaine Robertson during their 62-7 European Cup win away to Italian side Viadana on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Ireland international will appear before an independent disciplinary hearing "as soon as practicable" to learn his fate following the incident at the Stadio Giglio.

A statement issued on Wednesday by tournament organisers European Rugby Cup (ERC) said: "The citing lodged by the citing commissioner for the match, Iain Goodall (Scotland), is for a dangerous tackle (lifting a player from the ground and either dropping or driving that player's head and/or upper body first into the ground whilst the player's feet are off the ground) on Viadana wing Kaine Robertson in contravention of Law 10.4 (i).

"The independent judicial officer will be appointed as soon as practicable."
